WE MANUFACTURE PLASTIC PARTS USING OUR CNC MACHINING TOOLS FOR MILLING, TURNING, DRILLING, TAPPING, BORING & SURFACING

PLASTIC MACHINED COMPONENTS ARE MADE AT OUR MACHINE SHOP WITH THE EXACT TOLERANCES THAT YOU SPECIFY, AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO METAL

Plastic is a material consisting of any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds that are malleable and can be molded into solid objects.  The name plastic, comes from plasticity, which is described as the deformation of a solid material due to applied force.  This could be seen when hammering a plastic or a softer metal object and it begins to take on a new shape.

Maintaining tolerances during machining on softer materials such as plastics can be challenging because yielding can occur while supporting the stock on the chuck.  Sometimes even a barely too fast push of the tool can cause the part to walk inside the chuck that spins it.  Supporting the part firmly with a well distributed grip will allow stability without deforming the plastic part.  In addition Producing a good chip helps to keep your tolerances in check.  A good non sticky, perfect size chip can be achieved by using a coolant liquid or soft cool air on the plastic being cut.  Another thing to avoid is too long a period of tool friction as it can cause the chips to overheat and melt on the part or the tool.  When planning a toolpath on plastic, the correct feeds and speed will keep the stock at a favorable temperature to prevent any melting.  Our experienced staff, considers these circumstances when setting up to run the machine even if machining just one part.  With some pre-planning the end result is a part which tolerances are as desired and will provide years of excellent wear.

Machining plastic could be the best manufacturing choice in a number of applications where other materials prevailed in the past.  This is something the designer would decide depending on the intended use and asking the question:  What are my plastic choices to creating this part?  A bit of inquiring could take your designing in the right direction to making parts for more applications that you would think.

Because of plastic’s adaptability, resistance to environmental conditions, chemical resistance and strength, plastics are used successfully in a massive range of industries today.  Plastic has replaced materials such as: wood, stone, metal, glass, and others, sometimes performing even better than the original solid.  Plastic is an excellent choice for food processing or anything containing liquid or oil based substance because it absorbs very little fluid.  It can also be used for extreme high or low temperatures which makes it the first choice for certain electronic devises.   Plastic is highly impermeable which makes it an asset for some outdoor applications and construction components as well.
